 Update; July Smashfest

PHP-NukeWe will be moving into a new place at the end of June.  TheBurningCrow, SavvyNavi and I are all moving in together.  We have a basement in the new place and we are designing it to be the best entertainment center ever.  Once it's up, I would like to have a Smashfest there.  We can set up TV's all over the place.  It's in Renton.  Once we move, I'll give you all more details.

April event: Federal Way Regional Library, 4/26

PHP-NukeDate: 4/26/2008
Time: 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Library: Federal Way Regional Library

Address: 34200 1st Way S
Federal Way, WA 98003

Federal Way 320th wasn't open on Sunday and the Saturday spot was filled, so the Federal Way Regional Library is the next best thing. It's on a Saturday and will be from 1 to 5. Setup starts at 12, so if you want to help setup you can show up between 12 and 1. Any help is appreciated.

Also, help with snacks would also be appreciated. I don't know if I will be able to bring anything so anything you can bring would be awesome.

Also, Wii's with Brawl data will be needed. I have 1. I will be bringing a few Cubes with Melee as well. Remember to bring your own controller.

I have 1 normal tv for a Cube, an LCD monitor for the Wii (it has no lag), and a smaller tv for another system for a total of 3 stations (2 Cube, 1 Wii). If you would like to bring more stations, that is very much appreciated.

Normal tournament restrictions are in place, meaning that we can't exchange money while on the property. If there is a good turnout and a lot of people want a tourney, we may be able to take registration off site. We will have enough time to figure all of this out at the event.

Thanks everyone!

Match tracking, experience and leveling up. Using gamebattles.com with Seattle

PHP-NukeI was thinking that it would be great if we had a ranking system complete with win/loss records, experience and stats. I was thinking of having theBurningCrow write some HTML code that would handle all of this, but when I spoke to Ademisk about the idea he said that it sounded like gamebattles.com.

So I went to see what the site was about and yeah, it is almost identical to my idea except they offer real tournaments and real money among other things.

So I have been poking around the site for a few days and I think I want to integrate it into Seattle Smash. Here is how the system works from my understanding...

You create an account, edit your profile and whatever else
You join a ladder
You propose a time to play and you challenge other users
Both players play and within 30 minutes each player logs onto the site and reports who won
The winner gets experience, etc

The issue is that all matches are supposed to be played online. Since online sucks for competitive Smash, I was thinking that we could do the matches in person at our events. We would have two laptops set up and when a match is finished, each player logs onto their account and reports the results.

It doesn't offer things like favorite level or favorite character, but it does offer stats and you can access them and challenge people while you are away from a SeattleSmash event as well.

Is this something that you would be interested in? Here is the website.

Where would you prefer your Smashfests/tournaments?

PHP-NukeThe biggest issue with a community like this is the location. There is only so far that people are willing to travel to be at events and it's important to make sure that we don't always have events in one place. In this poll, I would like to know where you would prefer to have an event. Choose the option that is closest to where you live and assume that all locations will offer the same resources. Where would you like us to be?

Remember, these are just the areas, so add a few miles outside of the listed city. For example, Auburn area may cover Kent.

Sakuracon wrap up and future Seattle Smash events

PHP-NukeSo with the help of Jon, SavvyNavi, Savior, theBurningCrow, Chris from Gameclucks and a few great volunteers, this years Sakuracon tournament was another complete success.

The event lasted 8 hours and we signed up all 256 people.  It was a massive event and Teddy ended up walking away with the prize with D-Man in second and Peter in third while Xero got 4th.

We got a new banner and we have a few more people who are with us on the site.  We just broke the 200 member mark as well!

Tomorrow, Sunday, we will be having a Brawl tournament in the console gaming room, the same room the Melee tournament was in today.  It will be at 10:30.  The first 24 spots are reserved for SeattleSmash members.  I will bring the laptop and if you can log into your account from my machine, you will be able to slip into one of those slots.  It was asked about quite a bit today, so it is going to be popular.  If anyone has a Wii they would like to donate, please do so.  If it has all the characterts unlocked, we can use it.

Chris was a HUGE help today and we talked about Gameclucks and some possibilities of working together for more events in Lynnwood.   Between Auburn, the Kirkland library that Ademisk showed us and Gameclucks in Lynnwood, we should have a pretty good variety in location.

The events at Gameclucks are very competitive, so ours will be competitive with a casual feel as well.  We will use the ranking system and try to hold tournaments for people in those ranks but the most important goal for us is to just get people together more often for events.  We'll see how it all works out.

If you are joining because you just heard about us from Sakuracon, then welcome!  Make sure to update your profile information, your location and other info and check the sticky threads in the forums for a good starting point.  Post about anything you want in the appropriate sections and get some conversations started.  Create your own events and guage interest to see how big you can make them.

Thanks again to everyone that helped this year!

 Sakuracon registration

PHP-NukeRegistration for the Melee tournament will be in the console room, room 617.  As of right now this is also the room we will be using for the event.

Registration fro Brawl is still TBD, though it may be in the same place.
